Arkansas Lottery Rules and Laws

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, which was set up in 2008, is in charge of the Arkansas Lottery draw games. Though each game has its own features and peculiarities, there are some common rules for them:

  1. The minimum age for those who want to play the lottery is 18.
  2. All the numbers are drawn by computer.
  3. Video lotteries are prohibited in this state.
  4. The tickets are sold only at the local participating retailers, though some games can be played online.
  5. Even if you are a non-resident, you can play ASL games when visiting Arkansas.
  6. The Powerball and Mega Millions prizes can be paid out in annual installments or as a lump sum.
  7. Any Arkansas Lottery game is more engaging if you download the official mobile app.

Arkansas Tax on Lottery Winnings

Yes, lottery winnings are liable for taxation in Arkansas. However, the deductions depend on the prize amount and the winner’s citizenship. Let’s see how much can be subtracted from your funds.

Lottery Taxes on Arkansas Winnings for U.S. Citizens and Residents

Prize Tax Type Tax Percentage
under $5,000 Depends on your tax liability
$5,000 and over State tax 4.9%
Federal tax 24%
Total 28.9%
You should also consider the fact that prizes of $600 and over must be reported to the IRS in Arkansas. That is why the W-2G form will be issued and handed to you when you claim your winnings. Use our lottery tax calculator and define the total sum that you’ll get after winning!

Lottery Taxes on Arkansas Winnings for Non-U.S. Citizens and Residents

Prize Tax Type Tax Percentage
$600 and over State tax 5.9%
Federal tax 30%
Total 35.9%
As you can see, playing the lottery from abroad is rather costly in Arkansas. However, if big wins are your goal, you will always be ready to try.
