Claim Lottery Winnings in Idaho

Winning the lottery is a joy, but it is too early to rest on your laurels! Now, it’s time to get your prize into your pocket. You have 180 days to do all the work; otherwise, your lottery winnings go unclaimed. So, one more effort; your money is almost at hand! Our step-by-step claiming guide will help you.

Claim in Person

There are not so many ways for you to claim your winnings in person, but all of them are absolutely distinct.

  1. For your prizes up to and including $599, stop by any Idaho Lottery official retailer. The retailer locator for the quick search is right here.
  2. The bigger prizes are redeemed at the Lottery Office in Boise only. If you can’t get there for some reason, mailing is a good alternative.

If your prize exceeds $599, you will need to complete the winner claim form.

Claim by Mail

To claim your prize, just do the following:

  1. Write your name and address on the back of your ticket and sign it properly.
  2. Print the winner claim form and fill it out (for prizes exceeding $599).
  3. Attach a copy of your valid photo ID.
  4. Make copies of the claim form and both sides of your winning ticket for your records.

Idaho Lottery Rules and Laws

The first draw of the Idaho Lottery took place on July 19, 1989. Since that time, some new games, including the MUSL lotteries, have been added, and some overall rules for them have been established:

  • The Idaho Lottery allows a gambler to buy tickets and claim prizes only if he or she is 18 or older.
  • If you hit the jackpot, you are to choose between cash and annuity payments. You have just 60 days to decide on it.
  • It doesn’t matter where you live or where you came from. If you are in Idaho, you can buy tickets and play any lottery game!
  • Playing the lottery in groups means you share the tax liability equally.

Idaho Tax on Lottery Winnings

The ID Lottery winnings are taxable, so you will get your amount after all the withholdings. See more deduction details below and check out the sum with the lottery payout calculator.

FAQs About Idaho Lotteries

For the multi-state games, the sales stop an hour and five minutes before the draw. For the in-house lotteries, the sales are cut off five minutes before the play. See more details on this page above.

It is no surprise that Boise is the place where the majority of the winning lottery tickets have been sold.

You can purchase your tickets with a debit card here, but credit cards are not allowed.

Now, nine lotteries are at the players’ disposal. The pool of the multi-state games includes Powerball, Lucky for Life, Mega Millions, and Lotto America. As for Idaho-only lotteries, Pick 3, Pick 4, Weekly Grand, 5 Star Draw, and Idaho Cash will be offered to you there.

Yes. You ought to pay taxes when you win a prize. Noteworthy is that Idaho has one of the top ten highest lottery state tax rates across the US; it equals 6.92% here.

That may be disappointing for the true gamblers in Idaho, but there are no online ticket sales for local games there. However, there are a lot of official lottery retailers across the state, so you can make an entry right there. But if you prefer multi-state games, you can buy tickets and play the lottery online.

Anonymity after a lottery win is not the case for the winners in Idaho. The information concerning their names, addresses, winning amounts, the date of the draw, and the retailer location is subject to release upon an official request.

There is nothing shocking to tell you; here, you must be at least 18 to play any draw game.

The claiming period is typical in Idaho and lasts for 180 days from the time the drawing took place.

Even if your prize is enormous, your winning ticket expires anyway. So, do what you must do to not miss your prize.

A ticket is a lottery bearer instrument, and keeping it safe is your own responsibility. Write your name and address on the back of your ticket and sign it so it can be found and returned to you in case of loss. Please note that your prize will not be redeemed without your ticket.

About half of the Idaho Lottery’s income is aimed at the public schools’ support. All the rest of the funds go to the Permanent Building Fund established for financing colleges and universities in Idaho.
