The Virginia Lottery gives the winners 180 days to get their prizes. We think it is quite a lot, so you will be on time if you don’t procrastinate with the documents. The order for claiming lottery winnings is simple and plain.

Claim in Person

To claim your Virginia Lottery prize in person, consider the amount you are going to claim.

  1. The small prizes under $600 can be claimed at the VA Lottery’s participating retailers. Though not all of them may have enough cash to redeem your prize, it can be paid out by check or money order.
  2. Any bigger prizes must be claimed at the Virginia Lottery Service centers or prize zones. There are eight of them across the state, and you can see the contacts below.

Make sure you have prepared all the necessary documents, including your winning ticket, the completed claim form, a valid photo ID, and proof of your SSN.

Claim by Mail

You can also mail your documents to

  • If your amount is between $600 and $100,000, wait for an email to proceed with the claim.
  • For a bigger amount, the Lottery contacts the winners to schedule an appointment for the prize payout.
