Just like in Pick 3 in Iowa, there are no multipliers. All you can do here is play with higher wagers to get bigger prizes. Besides, look at the Pick 4 strategy. This is a good way to pick numbers. And certainly, stay with us because we’ve prepared for you many insights that increase your winning chances.

Still, you can also turn to online lotteries, where you can play safe and win overwhelming amounts. For example, Lucky for Life, Powerball, Lotto America, and Mega Millions offer you the opportunity to get more than a million. Don’t miss your chance and go playing!

Pick 4 Rules in Iowa

The Pick 4 lottery is here again—this time it is the Iowa version that is on the run! The game was introduced by the Iowa State Lottery in 1998, together with Pick 3. However, it was a daily lottery drawn every day back then. Evening draws were added in 2003, and you can now play even more! You are probably familiar with the key features of this lottery, as they are nearly identical to those of other pick-type games. Nevertheless, let us remind them just in case:

  • You must be at least 21 to participate. Note this moment because to enter the majority of US lotteries, players must be at least 18 years old.
  • You enter the game with four digits that can be selected on your own or with the help of the Quick Pick option. It’s a good idea to let the computer choose the numbers. At the same time, you’ll have fun with your own experiments. Just try to convert your dreams to digits, or you can turn to lottery predictions.
  • There are neither multipliers nor Combo play here. The more you bet, the more you win, and it is the only way. So, define how many tickets to buy based on your budget.
  • There are four playstyles, including Straight, Box, Straight/Box, and Pairs. Each style implies various winning combinations.
  • It is an Iowa-only game, so you must be in the territory of the state to take part in it.

If you want to win Pick 4 in Iowa, take the following steps:

  1. Buy your playslip at a local retailer.
  2. Pick four digits out of nine.
  3. Mark the type of the play – Box, Straight, etc.
  4. Define the time you are going to enter the draw.
  5. Look forward to seeing your results!

Iowa Lottery players typically follow the results on the IA Lottery’s official website or through the mobile app. We have a page for Pick 4 Iowa among the popular online lottery results, and you will always be kept up to date if you stick with us!

Iowa Pick 4 Payout and Taxes

The Pick 4 prizes can be claimed within 180 days after you hit your prize.  It is very easy, and you don’t have any reason to lose your prize. Just read in the table below what to do when you win the lottery.

PrizeHow to claim my Pick 4 winnings
$1 – $599

All the official lottery retailers redeem the Pick 4 prizes under $600 if they’ve got enough funds for that.

You may also claim your prize by mail. You are to prepare the following documents:

  • your winning ticket that was signed on the back;
  • the Winner Claim Form, completed correctly (you may see the samples here in advance);
  • Federal Form W-9 (for a US resident) or Federal Form W-8BEN (for a non-US resident).

If your papers are okay, just mail them to the Iowa Lottery (13001 University Ave, Clive, IA 50325-8225)

If this option doesn’t seem credible to you, you may claim your winnings at the lottery offices. They are in Cedar Rapids, Storm Lake, and Mason City. The IA Lottery Headquarters in Clive accepts the claims as well. Please note that personal requests must be provided by appointment only.

$600+

Prizes of $600 or more are redeemed by mail or in person. In the first case, you mail your documents to the address above, attaching a copy of your photo ID.

If a personal visit is preferable, contact the Lottery Headquarters or offices at the following phone numbers:

Clive: 515-725-7900

Storm Lake: 712-732-6662

Mason City: 641-424-6011

Cedar Rapids: 319-395-9313

Lottery prizes over $600 are taxable in Iowa! You can win big amounts when playing Pick 4 here, so most of them can be taxed. Thus, your winnings between $600 and $4,999 are subject to a 5% state tax withholding. If you exceed this amount, you must pay an additional 24% federal tax. Whatever prize you’ve won, the lottery tax calculator will help you estimate everything.
