- Complete the General Information section; all the lines must be filled out!

Barbados Lottery Rules and Laws
Gambling in Barbados is provided by the Barbados Lottery. It is related to the Caribbean Lottery run by International Game Technology, known around the world as a large gambling provider. Many other Caribbean territories, including Jamaica, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, Bermuda, St. Maarten, and the USVI, have common lotteries in their pools, but in Barbados, they are based on definite rules:
- The minimum legal gambling age is the same for all of the Caribbean and equals 18.
- Online gambling is illegal in Barbados, as is ticket purchasing via telephone or SMS.
- If you play in Barbados, it is here where you can collect the prizes.
- You can complete your game slips with a black or blue ink pen only.
- The tickets can’t be canceled after they are printed.
- Big lottery winnings are liable for taxation in Barbados.
Barbados Tax on Lottery Winnings
All the prizes won in lotteries were tax-free until 2019, when new tax amendments were accepted. Now, some Barbados Lottery winners get their winnings after certain subtractions. See the tables below and use the lottery tax calculator to learn more.
- Lottery Taxes on Lottery Winnings for Barbados Citizens and Residents
Prize | Tax Type | Tax Percentage |
---|---|---|
Up to BBD$100,000 | State tax | 0% |
Total | 0% | |
BBD$100,000 and over | State tax | 20% |
Total | 20% |
As you can see, the withholdings are considerable. However, large prizes can be won just in a couple of Barbados lotteries, so a lion’s share of the winners are freed from taxation, while all the rest play for fun, not for money.
- For Non-Barbados Citizens and Residents
Prize | Tax Type | Tax Percentage |
---|---|---|
Up to BBD$100,000 | State tax | 0% |
Total | 0% | |
BBD$100,000 and over | State tax | 20% |
Total | 20% |
You can play the Barbados lotteries within its territory only, so tax law applies to you as well. The 20% tax is withheld at the moment the prize is cashed out, so you receive the final amount without the need to report it anywhere.
FAQs About Barbadian Lotteries
The Barbados Lotteries sets the five-minute time between the time the pools are closed and the start of the game. However, for Super Lotto, the sales stop 10 minutes before the draw, and Express Cash accepts your bets right from the moment they are registered.
Traditionally, the most winning location in Barbados is St. Michael, one of the largest parishes in the southeast of the territory.
It depends on the policy of a certain BL point of sale, so figure out the payment options beforehand. Still, the experienced players know that cash is still preferred, so they usually keep it at hand.
The pool of lotteries in Barbados consists of six lotteries. Three of them, Super Lotto, Pick 3, and Pick 4, are also played in some other Caribbean territories. Still, all the other lotteries—Express Cash, Double Draw, and Mega 6—are unique and are offered mostly in Barbados.
The tax has been imposed on lottery winnings in Barbados since 2019. Today, the big winners pay 20% tax if their prize exceeds BBD $100,000.
You can’t. Gambling through the Internet is illegal in Barbados.
According to the Barbados lottery rules, only the winner’s telephone number and address may be concealed. All the other information, including their names, the game they played, the date of the draw, and the winning amount, is to be revealed to the public.
In the Caribbean, you can enter lotteries and collect prizes only if you are at least 18 years old.
You have 90 days or three months starting from the date of the victorious draw. The period may seem too long, but we wouldn’t recommend delaying your claim; time flies!
It will. In 90 days, all the unclaimed lottery prizes go back to the lottery funds and are then distributed according to the BL policy.
To be honest, it won’t kill you, but you will stay without your prize. In Barbados, there are no other ways to prove your entry except your ticket; if it is lost or stolen, your claim can’t be accepted, as the Barbados Lottery is not responsible for it. Moreover, you can’t collect your winnings if your ticket is damaged, misprinted, or mutilated.
A certain share of the BL proceeds is given to the prize fund, but it is the smaller portion; the key mission of the Barbados Lottery is the development of sports, culture, and youth across the territory, so the bigger part of the income is earmarked to fund the appropriate projects and organizations. Thus, the list of BL beneficiaries includes the Barbados Olympic Association, the Barbados Cricket Association, the National Sports Club Council, and the Barbados Turf Club.
